Medical Support Assistant
Job description:
We are currently seeking a motivated and customer service–oriented Medical Support Assistant (MSA) to join our healthcare support team. The MSA plays a key role in ensuring smooth administrative operations within clinical settings by providing front-line support to patients, healthcare providers, and clinical staff.
As an MSA, you will be responsible for managing patient scheduling, clerical functions, and communication processes that directly impact patient care and service delivery.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Greet and assist patients in person and by phone in a courteous and professional manner.
· Schedule, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments in accordance with provider availability and clinic protocols.
· Verify patient demographics and insurance information; update records accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
· Coordinate referrals, follow-up appointments, and consultations as required.
· Serve as a liaison between patients and clinical staff to support timely communication and service delivery.
· Maintain medical records and documentation in compliance with privacy and confidentiality standards (HIPAA).
· Provide general administrative support including scanning, faxing, data entry, and filing.
· Handle incoming calls, messages, and inquiries from patients, families, and outside organizations.
· Support efficient patient flow and assist with front desk operations to reduce wait times and ensure a positive patient experience.
Education:
· High School education and diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience and Qualifications:
· Minimum 6 months of customer service experience.
· Prior experience in a medical office, healthcare setting, or customer service role preferred.
· Familiarity with medical terminology and EHR systems (e.g., CPRS, Epic, Cerner, or similar) is a plus.
· Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer systems.
· Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and healthcare administrative protocols.
· Oral and written proficiency with English.
· Type at least 50 WPM.
